MADISON – Aging and undersized for modern firefighting equipment, the Minong Ranger Station is slated for replacement in a $2.9 million request included in Gov. Tony Evers' proposed capital budget.
The DNR Board on Wednesday, Jan. 23, approved issuing 2,440 bear hunting permits up from 2,135 in Zone D, which includes all of Douglas, Burnett and Washburn counties and parts of Bayfield, Ashland, Barron and Polk counties.
The Public Service Commission on Thursday authorized rates for Superior Water, Light & Power average residential customers that would increase monthly bills by $7.18, according to a PSC spokesman.
MADISON — A Chicago man caught in a Superior motel room with about 2.8 ounces of fentanyl was sentenced Friday in federal court to 10 years in prison for possessing with the intent to sell. Michael Clark, 33, was on probation in October 2015 from a drug conviction in Minnesota federal court when members of the Northwest Area Crime Unit entered his Bay Walk Inn room and found him packaging fentanyl, according to court documents.
The utility is seeking rate increases of 2.01 percent for electric, 2.31 percent for natural gas and 8.26 percent for water.
MADISON — More black bears are killed by hunters in Wisconsin than in any other state, and this year hunters can kill more as the Department of Natural Resources Board increased the number of quotas and permits. Hunters took 4,639 bears in 2016 when the quota was 4,750. The DNR issued 11,520 permits statewide. On Wednesday, the Natural Resources Board upped the harvest quota to 5,000 and the number of permits to 12,850.
