Northwestern plays again at Cumberland at 7:15 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20.
The Spartans host Duluth Marshall at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Wessman Arena.
The Spartans, who led 19-16 at the half, outscored Esko 30-16 in the second half to improve to 3-0 on the season.

When Reagan Ruffi was named the 2017 Superior Telegram Player of the Year, it was hard to imagine having a better season that included a school-record 1,791 yards rushing with 22 touchdowns. But the future Minnesota Duluth Bulldog outdid himself by topping his single-season rushing record with 1,981 yards and shattering the single-season touchdown record with 35. Those accomplishments led to Ruffi being named the Superior Telegram Player of the Year for the second straight season.
With a starting line up of five seniors, including their top three scorers from a season ago, Superior boys basketball coach Jake Smith has high expectations for his Spartans heading into the 2017-18 season.
There will be a new coach on the sidelines for the Northwestern High School girls basketball team this season.
Under the guidance of second-year head coach Marc Franta, the SHS girls hockey team will look to improve on last season’s 6-17 record.
