Za’Darius Smith wins NFL Player of the Week honor

Smith reached a career high with eight tackles, made three sacks, recorded four tackles for loss and registered five quarterback hits Monday.

Green Bay Packers outside linebacker Za’Darius Smith is the NFC Defensive Player of the Week for Week 4 of the 2020 NFL season.

In the Packers' 30-16 victory over the Atlanta Falcons on Monday, Oct. 5, Smith reached a career high with eight tackles, made three sacks, recorded four tackles for loss and registered five quarterback hits.

Smith and Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett are tied for the NFL lead in sacks with five apiece. Garrett is the AFC Defensive Player of the Week for Week 4.

Last season, Smith collected 13.5 sacks along with 17 tackles for loss and 37 quarterback hits to earn his first Pro Bowl invitation.

The Player of the Week Award is the second in Smith’s career, which started as a fourth-round draft choice from Kentucky in 2015. He won the AFC Defensive Player of the Week Award for Week 6 of the 2018 season while playing for the Baltimore Ravens.

The other Player of the Week Award winners for Week 1 were Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady, NFC Offensive; Cincinnati Bengals running back Joe Mixon, AFC Offensive; Minnesota Vikings running back Mike Boone, NFC Special Teams; and Denver Broncos punter Brandon McManus, AFC Special Teams.
