Yellowjackets report: UWS men's hockey tops Concordia in OT

Zach Bannister scores with 4.5 seconds left to give Wisconsin-Superior a nonconference victory.

SUPERIOR — Sophomore forward Zach Banister found the back of the net via a centering pass from junior defenseman Charles Martin with 4.5 seconds left on the clock to give Wisconsin-Superior a 4-3 overtime victory at Concordia-Moorhead in nonconference play Saturday in Moorhead, Minnesota.

Dylan Johnson, Sam Sterne and Troy Quinn also had goals for the Yellowjackets (8-4-2) on Saturday. Quinn also had an assist to finish the afternoon with two points. Jordan Martin also had a multi-point game with two assists.

Mason Plante registered two goals and an assist for Concordia (5-6-2), which also got a goal and two assists from Tyler Bossert.

Yellowjackets junior goaltender Myles Hektor made 36 saves, including five in overtime. Aaron Dickstein finished with 22 saves for Concordia after taking over the net in the second period. Matt Fitzgerald stopped nine of the 10 shots he faced in the first period for Concordia.

Next weekend, Superior is scheduled to host St. Scholastica at 7:05 p.m. on Friday and Gustavus Adolphus at 7:05 p.m. on Saturday at Wessman Arena, however, both the Saints and Gusties had to cancel games this weekend due to COVID-19 protocols.

Men's basketball tops Northland

Josef Fahrenholtz and Eli Vogel both finished with 15 points to lead the Yellowjackets (5-8 overall, 2-1 UMAC) over Northland College (3-11, 2-1) 85-64 on Saturday in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference play in Ashland.

Mason Ackley had 14 points, 12 rebounds, six assists and four steals. Reid Johnson and Xavier Patterson finished with 10 points each. All five starters finished in double figures for scoring for Superior.

Tyler Tuura had 12 points off the bench to lead Northland in scoring while Jordan Brennan had 11 points.

The Yellowjackets jumped out to a 44-25 lead at halftime on Saturday, and led by as many as 33 points in the second half.

Up next for UW-Superior is a nonconference road game Tuesday against Finlandia in Hancock, Michigan. The Yellowjackets are then home next weekend to host Crown at 7:15 p.m. Friday and Minnesota Morris at 4:45 p.m. Saturday in UMAC play at Mertz Mortorelli Gymnasium.
