Wis. Prep Report: Northwood/Solon Springs, Northwestern win regional softball titles

Northwood/Solon Springs also capture regional baseball title

Northwood/Solon Springs overcame four errors to beat Chetek-Weyerhaeuser 6-3 for a WIAA Division 4 regional championships on Wednesday.

Bailey Monson drove in two runs for Northwood/Solon Springs while Muree Ahlberg went 2-for-3 with a triple and RBI.

Zoey Vaara picked up the win on the mound by giving up three runs off five hits over seven innings with no walks and four strikeouts.

Northwestern 12, St. Croix Falls 0

In Brule on Wednesday, the Tigers captured their fifth-straight regional championship by posting their 14th shutout of the season.

Senior Alison Luoma has started all 14 of those shutouts for Northwestern, which advances to Monday's WIAA Division 3 sectional semifinals.

BASEBALL

Northwood/Solon Springs 14, Washburn 4, 5 innings

A nine-run fourth inning catapulted Northwood/Solon Springs to a regional title and into the WIAA Division 4 sectional semifinals, where they will take on top-seeded Webster at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Shell Lake.

Senior Drake Debeir overcame early struggles on the mound to finish with eight strikeouts. Freshman Abe Ahlberg went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double, two runs scored and three RBIs.
