Duluth East junior Ayla Oltmanns had 13 kills and 12 digs to lead the Greyhounds to a 3-0 (25-17, 25-18, 25-14) win at Superior Tuesday, Oct. 5.

Duluth East came out “determined” according to coach Susan Schmidt, with the team jumping on Superior and never really allowing the Spartans back into the match.

Schmidt said the team has had a number of close sets they lost by a point or two recently and they wanted to make sure it didn’t happen again against the Spartans.

That passing improved for the Greyhounds against Superior, according to Schmidt, but that wasn’t the key to the win.

“Our ability to do something with every pass was what I think was key tonight,” Schmidt said. “They were determined to put the ball down, no matter if the pass was perfect or not. I think that was the big difference here.”

In addition to Oltmanns' play, Ola Okoro had 29 set assists and three aces and Ashlyn Ring had nine kills.

Destiny Hering had eight kills and 11 digs to lead the Spartans.
