The Northwestern High School volleyball team improved to 4-1 in the Heart O’ North Conference with a 3-1 (25-15, 14-25, 25-22, 25-22) win over Chetek-Weyerhaeuser on Thursday, Oct. 3, in Maple.
“We played a very crisp first set, we were on in all aspects of our game and scored points quickly,” NHS coach Charlie Hessel said. “From that point on, we really had to work hard to score. Chetek picked up a lot of digs and had some powerful hits, so we had to earn every point. With that being said, we didn't play our best match, so to be able to come away with a victory was big for us.
“Sometimes it takes grit and perseverance, and our girls came through.”
The Tigers, also 9-18 overall, were led by Brynn Erickson, 11 killsand 22 digs; Brooke Ogren, 10 kills and 15 digs; Allison Luoma, 13 digs; Jaydon Goette, five kills and seven digs; Brynn Hessel, 15 digs and four kills; and Tayva Plasch, 30 set assists and eight digs.
The Tigers play at Ashland on Tuesday, Oct. 8, and Barron on Thursday, Oct. 10. Both matches begin at 7 p.m.
