The Frederic Vikings defeated the Solon Springs High School volleyball team 3-1 (25-14, 25-14, 22-25, 25-15) Thursday, Sept. 5, in Sandy “Spin” Slade Gymnasium in Solon Springs.

“We played tough and hustled,” SSHS coach Mel Gehl said. “They have an amazing attitude and I am extremely thankful to be their coach.”

Kyra Latvala led the Eagles with 16 set assists; Jori Gehl had a team-high 10 kills; Marcy Price added four kills and Maddelyn Swanson had two.

Solon Springs, which opened Indianhead Conference play Monday, Sept. 9 at Ironwood, will take part in the Winter Invitational at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 14.

Cross Country

Solon Springs’ Owen Dickenson picked up his third win of the cross country season at the Mellen High School’s Copper Falls Invitational Saturday, Sept. 7.

The Eagle boys finished second and the girls were fourth.
