One day after notching its first conference victory of the season Friday over UW-La Crosse, the University of Wisconsin-Superior volleyball team lost a heartbreaker Saturday to UW-Platteville.
The Yellowjackets also snapped a seven-match losing streak with Friday’s 3-2 win over UWLC (25-20, 23-25, 19-25, 25-19, 15-11).
UWS got big games from Stephanie Bandelin with a match-high 23 kills along with nine digs. Keely Deadrick had 44 assists and seven digs, and Leah Nightingale had 11 kills.

The Yellowjackets also had good games from Chelsey Walerius, Jordan Olson and Mackenzie Dahlin, who had 13, 13 and 11 digs, respectively.
UWS won the first two games Saturday but then lost in five sets to the UWP Pioneers (20-25, 15-25, 25-11, 25-21, 15-7).
Bandelin recorded 21 kills and Deadrick added 51 assists for the Yellowjackets (8-18 overall, 1-3 WIAC).
Jennifer Schmidt had 16 kills and Allie Carter had 27 assists for Platteville (8-18, 1-3).
After playing at UW-Stout at 7 p.m. Wednesday, the Yellowjackets will host a tournament this weekend. On Friday UWS plays Lakeland at 3:30 p.m., followed by Northland College at 5:30 p.m. and Maranatha Baptist at 7:30 p.m. Saturday’s matches are vs. Bethany at 10 a.m. and Lakeland at 2 p.m.
Women’s soccer
UW-Stout scored four first-half goals en route to a 6-0 WIAC victory over the UWS women Friday at Blue Devil Field in Menomonie.

Stout (3-7-3 overall, 2-3-1 WIAC) ended its five-game winless streak with two goals from Lauren Kizlik and one each from Sarah Todey, Kelli Elmer, Kelly Kornmann and Lindsey Concon.
Goaltender Kristi Schurhammer made five saves for Stout while Superior (3-9-1, 0-4-0) got eight saves from goalie Rachel Wallace.
Superior plays Northland College at 2 p.m. today in Ashland.
Men’s soccer
Kevin Skrip’s goal on a free kick with six minutes remaining gave the St. Olaf Oles a 1-0 victory over the UWS men’s soccer team Sunday in Northfield, Minn.
Matt Elder had two saves in goal for UWS and Le Cam had four saves in his shutout for St. Olaf.
Both teams attempted 12 shots. The Yellowjackets had four shots on goal, including three by Ryan Linsmayer.
