University of Wisconsin-Superior senior midfielder Logan George scored a pair of big goals last week and for his effort was named the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Offensive Athlete of the Week. It's the third time in the first four weeks of the season that a Yellowjacket has taken home the honor.
The Yellowjackets defeated Hamline 3-2 in double overtime on Wednesday and UW-Platteville 2-1 on Sunday, and George came through the in the clutch in each game.
With the match against Hamline tied in the second half, George scored from short range to give UWS a brief 2-1 lead. The 'Jackets would go on to score in the 109th minute to get the overtime win at Hamline. On Sunday, with just over six minutes to play and the score tied 1-1, George was awarded a penalty kick. The goalkeeper went right and he kicked left, giving UWS a 2-1 and eventually its first conference win of the season.
George, who has two goals and two assists for six points on the year, is tied for the team scoring lead.
The Yellowjackets (6-2, 1-1 WIAC) host Finlandia at 4 p.m. today at Superior High School soccer complex.
