Wisconsin-Superior senior C.J. Pillrath set a UMAC meet record by defending his title in the men's weight throw Friday at the UMAC Indoor Track and Field Championship in Superior.

Pillrath's winning toss went 62 feet, 4.5 inches as the defending champion Yellowjackets built a healthy lead with 101.5 points by winning four events on the opening day of the two-day competition. St. Scholastica is in second with 73 points.

Other UWS winners included Brett Goplen in the high jump (6 feet) and the distance medley (11 minutes, 6.49 seconds) and 800-meter relays (1:33.02).

St. Scholastica's Jericho Peterson won the 400 meters in 51.60 seconds and Isaac Boedigheimer of Cloquet was first in the 5,000 in 15:48.01.

In the women's meet, 10-time reigning champion St. Scholastica holds a 37-point lead over Minnesota-Morris after winning five of the eight events Friday.

Anika Kling captured titles in the 400 meters (1:00.72) and the long jump (16 feet, 5.25 inches), Lexi Erickson leaped 5-1.25 to win the high jump, Natalie St. Marie claimed the weight throw (51-2.25) and the distance medley relay team won in 13:39.29.

The Wisconsin-Superior women are in third, helped by Mathea Brink's victory in the 5,000 meters (19:49.67) and in the 800-meter relay.
