Northwestern High School’s Donny Pooler is among eight incoming runners that will join the College of St. Scholastica men’s cross-country team this fall.
Pooler was a multi-sport, multi-WIAA state meet qualifier in cross-country, track and wrestling, often running and wrestling in simultaneous seasons.
In cross-country, Pooler finished 12th in the 2016 boys D2 WIAA State Meet, while finishing 10th in the 2017 WIAA D2 1,600 meters in track.
Pooler will focus on distance and middle-distance running for the Saints.
Other newcomers on the men’s team are Nick Meyer (Wabasha-Kellogg); Max Botz (St. Cloud, Minn.); Emil Book Bratbak (Lillehammer, Norway); Bjorn Larson (Duluth East); Nick Matelich (Boxeman, Mont.); Mitchell Olson (Rochester, Minn.); Gus Schatzlein (Savage, Minn.); and Hannes Stenstrom (Åre, Sweden).
Incoming women runners include Hannah Bettendorf (Proctor); Claire Anderson (South St. Paul); Lexi Erickson (International Falls); Marin Foss (Pine City, Minn.); Kyra Jackson (Hayward); Rana Kraftson (Bayport, Minn.); Marit May (Durango, Colo.); Kenzie Myers (Bend, Ore.); and Allison Mortier (Marshall, Minn.).
The Saints will open their season at The Twin Cities Twilight on Aug. 30 in in Blaine, Minn.
CSS will then have its first races in the Twin Ports since the 2014 Upper Midwest Athletic Conference Championships when it competes in the Nemadji College Invite on Sept. 6.
