Registration for Grandma's extended

With one of the later race dates in Grandma's Marathon history, registration for the 26.2-mile event along the North Shore has been extended by one week, through June 7, organizers announced Friday.

The 37th Grandma's Marathon is 7:45 a.m. June 22.

There were 7,182 entrants as of Friday afternoon. Runners can register online only at for a fee of $110.

"If runners missed our first (entry) deadline, we're giving them another opportunity," executive race director Scott Keenan said Friday.

The inaugural Grandma's Marathon was held June 25, 1977, the latest date for the race. The 1978 race was on June 24, and in 1979 and 1990 was on June 23. The race typically is held the third Saturday in June.

The accompanying Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon on June 22 has 7,810 entrants and the William A. Irvin 5-Kilometer race June 21 has 1,985 entrants. Both races are closed.
