The Northwestern High School volleyball team defeated Solon Springs 3-0 (25-17, 25-15, 25-19) Thursday night in Maple to improve to 3-1 for the season.
Alyssa Frick had 18 digs for the Tigers, Amanda Ogren had 13 kills, Cheyenne Johnson had 12 kills and Daisy Mack had 31 set assists.
“We were able to find some consistency tonight in pretty much all aspects of the game,” said Charlie Hessel, NHS coach. “We still have some work to do, but each night we are taking a step in the right direction.

“Our passing was better, Daisy was making good decisions with the set, and our hitters were more aggressive.”
On Tuesday, the Tiger girls defeated the South Shore Cardinals 3-2 (19-25, 25-12, 25-27, 25-21, 15-4).
The match went back and forth until the Tigers won in the fifth game, 15-4.
“Our girls had a great attitude and did not give up,” Hessel said.
Statistical leaders for Northwestern included Lexi Janigo with eight kills and 11 digs; Johnson with seven kills and nine ace serves; Mack, 26 assists; and Frick, 16 digs.
As a team the Tigers are serving around 94 percent. Johnson enjoyed an especially good night of serving, which included serving the Tigers to 13 straight points in game three.
“Not only was she keeping it in, she was putting it right where she wanted it, and that was fun to see,” Hessel said.
For South Shore, Megan Gustafson had 15 kills, Casey Nicoletti added seven kills, Makayla Lovejoy had 18 assists and Kellie Rock had 20 assists.
