The Northwestern Tigers were second and the Superior High School boys golf team was third Friday and Saturday at the Scott Miller Invitational at Telemark and Hayward Golf and Tennis.
Virginia won the team title with a score of 611. The Tigers carded a 639 and the Spartans came in at 644.
Virginia's Olaf Walkky won medalist honors with a two-day total of 144. Northwestern's Justin Alexson was second with a 148, Superior's Chris Rochon was eighth at 155 and Northwestern's Gabe Dinkel tied for ninth place at 156.
Also for the Spartans, Daniel Burger and Spencer Sitek tied for 15th place with 162s; Nolan Holcombe was 27th with a 168; and Blake Johnson came in 55th place with a 178.
"Chris played solid golf for us both days, he has displayed the consistency you need from a number one golfer all season," SHS coach Dan Schulz said. "Spencer responded from a sub-par performance on Friday with his best round of the year at Telemark on Saturday. Spencer is an excellent ball striker and his short game is steadily improving. Aside from a couple loose shots, which led to bogeys he was able to put everything together Saturday en route to a nice round of 76 (four over par)."

Holcombe's tournament included an eight-over-par round of 80 at Hayward Golf and Tennis on Friday.
"He has improved dramatically over the past two seasons," Schulz said. "He didn't start competing in golf until his junior year of high school, but if he continues to gain confidence and improve his scores he will be an asset as we prepare for post-season competition."
Also golfing for the Tigers were Grant Pearson, 166; Peter Lindsay, 170; and Josiah Vik, 181.
The Tigers, who were at Spooner Tuesday, and Spartans, who are at Ashland at noon Wednesday, will both be at the Rice Lake Invitational at 9 a.m. Thursday.
