“I was impressed with all three of the team’s scores,” Swanson said. “It was a great match with all the girls shooting very competitive scores. I was especially proud of our girls. As a team we improved 44 strokes from our last match in Spooner on Tuesday.”

Trailing 2-0, the Tigers rallied to win games three and four, but then came up short in the deciding game as they fell to the Cumberland Beavers 3-2 (27-25, 25-22, 22-25, 15-25, 15-9 Tuesday night on the road.
“We dug ourselves a big hole in each of the first two sets and came back to tie or lead,” NHS coach Charlie Hessel said. “To come back and force a fifth set says a lot about our group of girls. They had the opportunity to throw in the towel on several occasions, but they didn’t, and I am very proud of them for that.”
The Tigers were led by Amanda Ogren and Cheyenne Johnson with 15 kills apiece; Lexi Janigo, 14 kills; Daisy Mack, 43 set assists; and Alyssa Frick, 21 digs.
The loss drops Northwestern to 1-3 in the Heart O’ North Conference and 5-4 overall.
In action on Sept. 18, an aggressive Tiger volleyball team defeated the Spooner Rails 3-1 (25-9, 25-16, 16-25, 25-21) Sept. 18 in Maple.

“We played very aggressively in all aspects of the game,” Hessel said. “Our passing was much better than Tuesday, which led to more aggressive setting and better swings.”
Leading the Tigers were Janigo, 12 kills and 10 digs; Ogren and Johnson, 10 kills apiece; Beccah Wester, eight kills; Mack, 40 set assists; and Frick, 25 digs.
“Serving was a little off for us, but everything else was clicking for the most part,” Hessel said. “Spooner was a tough team; they picked up a lot of our hits and were also aggressive at the net. This was a nice win for us.”
The Tigers host a tournament at 10 a.m. Saturday. Scheduled to play in the tournament at Amery, Drummond, Hudson, Solon Springs, Washburn, Ironwood and Luck.
