MAPLE - The Northwestern High School girls basketball team opened WIAA Division 3 tournament play with a 52-34 win over the Spooner Rails Tuesday in the NHS gym.

It was all Tigers in the first half as they rolled to a 37-7 halftime lead.

Mac Correll scored 12 points, all in the first half and all on three-point shots, and Sydney Anderson scored 10 points, all in the first half.

Tiger senior Katie Lundeen topped all scorers with 16 points, eight in each half.

Correll also ended up with eight assists and Sydney Anderson was the top rebounder with seven.

No. 5 seed Northwestern (16-7) now travels to No. 4 Amery at 7 p.m. Friday.

The winner will play the Hayward-Barron winner at 7 p.m. Saturday night at the higher seed.
