The Northwestern High School boys basketball team put three players in double figures and defeated the Barron Bears 51-38 Thursday in Maple.

Senior guard Kade Bartelt led the Tigers with 15 points, with Greg Ruhman and Brody Payton added 13 and 11, respectively.

The Tigers (10-8) are in third place in the Heart O’ North Conference with a record of 8-3 and are 10-8 overall. They played a non-conference game at Cameron and go to unbeaten Bloomer Friday.

Barron -- Mitchell Farnell 9, Warren Williams 13, Jordan Nevin 11, Carter LaLiberty 1, Garet Lettner 4. Totals: 14 6-10 38.

Girls basketball

The Tigers lost to the Bloomer LadyHawks 55-30 Friday in Maple.

The game was closer than the final indicated as Bloomer lead 27-20 at half and the Tigers pulled to within 29-27 early in the second half.

But after that it was all Bloomer.

Mac Correll led Northwestern with nine points, all on 3-pointers.

Bloomer improves to 15-3 overall and 11-1 in the HON.

Northwestern (12-7, 8-4) travels to Cumberland Thursday and Grantsburg Saturday.
