With rain in the forecast for the majority of Wednesday afternoon in Mankato, Minn., University of Minnesota Duluth baseball coach Bob Rients has announced that the scheduled double dip against Minnesota State University, Mankato has been moved to Thursday.
The first game of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference clash is still slated for a 1 p.m., start at the MSU Baseball Complex.
MSU (26-8 overall, 15-3 in the NSIC) enters the doubleheader having won 17 of its last 20 contests, with one of the three losses coming at the hands of the Bulldogs on April 7. UMD senior co-captain Will Dahlgren belted a ninth inning, two-run walk-off homer in the opener of the two teams' league twin bill at Bulldog Park.
The Bulldogs are 19-15 on the year and an even 7-7 in NSIC play. Most recently, the Bulldogs earned a weekend sweep at Northern State University, this past Saturday and Sunday. Dahlgren has been the offensive leader as of late, currently sporting a 10-game hitting streak while owning a .394 batting average overall.
With the date change, UMD's previously scheduled Thursday two-game set versus the University of Wisconsin-Superior -- to be played at Bulldog Park -- has been canceled. It is unclear at this point, if the two teams will be able to reschedule the Twin Ports clash.
