Summer track series begins

The UWS Mini Meet series kicked off Tuesday at the outdoor track behind Wessman Arena.

The first meet of the summer series was well attended, with 20 people running in the predicted mile - the largest event of the evening.

Jeff Cottrell was the top runner overall. He finished first in the 100-meter dash, 400-meter run, 800-meter run and open mile. Jason Lindeloff finished second in four events and was the closest to his expected time in the predicted mile, missing the mark by only six seconds. Tim Carlsness won the 5K cross county event in 22 minutes, 40 seconds.

The next evening of races in the UWS Mini Meet series is July 19. Cost is 50 cents, and races begin at 6:30 p.m.

The final two Mini Meet events will be held July 26 and Aug. 2.
