­An eight-run outburst in the third inning gave the Superior Senior High School Spartans a 10-5 baseball win over Duluth Central. Louis Viggiano clubbed a three-run shot and Steve Hendry hammered a two-run homer. Brian Sislo got the pitching win with a five-hitter. (1979)

Perry Lindberg was elected president of the Nemadji Men's Golf Club to succeed Bill DamKroeger. Tony Leszcynski was named vice president and Joe Nault is secretary-treasurer. (1980)

Roger Lambert scored a hole-in-one with a 9-iron on the par-3, 112-yard ninth hole at the Nemadji Golf Course. He was playing golf with Bill Germond. (1980)

A four-run third inning fueled by hits by Mary Moody, Robin Doering and Rhonda Hicks powered the Superior Senior High School softball team to its 10th win of the season -- 10-3 over Proctor. Moody got the pitching win, allowing only two hits and fanning nine batters. Moody has been the winning pitcher in eight of Superior's victories. (1981)

Seniors Casey VanDamme and Sherri Odlevak will receive the top athlete honors of the year at UW-Superior. VanDamme set a new career hockey scoring record at UWS with 83 goals and 100 assists in 105 games. Odlevak, a multi-sports athlete, was named to the Wisconsin State University All-Conference basketball, volleyball and track teams. (1981)
