The Bryant School basketball team was riding high after it nipped Ericsson 32-31 to win the playoff title in the Superior Hoop Club's Seventh-Eighth Grade Basketball League Tournament. Bryant, tied for second in the regular season (with Pattison at 11-30 knocked off the 14-0 Ericsson squad behind the shooting of Paul Kennelly, who scored 12 points, and Arnie Parenteau, who counted 10. Jamie Brokaw was the top shooter for the losers with 11 points. (1980)

Superior East Junior High School ended its undefeated season in the Superior Hoop Club's Seventh-Eighth Grade Basketball League with its 16th consecutive win -- defeating Washington 40-29. Trevor Buhr led the winners with eight points. Steve Kastern led the losers with 16 counters. (1981)

The Superior Senior High School hockey team was unstoppable, piling up an 11-2 win over an outclassed Monona Grove team in a semifinal game at the state tournament in Madison. The Spartans, 16-6 on the season and 8-0 against Wisconsin prep foes, had Joe Ferris leading the scoring parade with two goals and two assists. Marty Wiitala and Dennis Will each netted a goal and an assist, Jim McGinnis was credited with two assists, and single goals were scored by Todd Larkee, Rick Barton, Tony Bronson, George Graskey, Mike VanOvermerien, Aaron Gotham and Mike Longberg.
