The Superior Senior High School Spartans tied an all-time record of 65.9 percent shooting accuracy while disposing of the Burlington Demons 71-55 in the opening round of the state basketball tournament in Madison. Mike Stack had a major role in that record by connecting on 9-of-10 shots from the field for 19 points, equaling the scoring level of Dan Morgan, who went 8-for-13. Rob Moodie added 17 points, shooting at the rate of 7-for-12. (1974)
Gil Krueger was named University of Wisconsin-Superior football coach. He comes to UWS after resigning a position on the coaching staff of the New Jersey Generals of the United States Football League. Krueger compiled a 99-78-3 record as a college coach, including 31-15 while at Northern Michigan University. He also coached UW-Platteville to a 41-6-1 record from 1969-73. (1984)
