The Bill Venne and Bob Nichols rinks finished with 4-1 round-robin records in the Superior Men’s Curling Club Playdowns and both will advance to the district playdowns leading up to the state title. The Venne foursome, including third Bill Sullivan, second Rick Fox and lead Jeff Erickson, will have the advantage of home ice in either Green Bay or Portage. Curling with Nichols are third Bud Somerville, second Bob Christman and lead Bob Buchanan. (1982)
Guard Tony (Bubs) Watson drilled a 10-foot jump shot three seconds before the final buzzer and UW-Superior defeated UW-Platteville 65-63 to take over sole possession of second place in the Wisconsin State University Conference. Willie (Fly) Reed scored 16 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead UWS; Monte Denard hit for 13 points, and Dave Cochran netted 12. The win before a packed house in Gates Arena, gave the Yellowjackets records of 8-4 overall and 3-1 in the WSUC.
