Spartan soccer team falls to Barron

The Spartan girls soccer team outshot Barron 15-5 Tuesday evening, but strong play in goal helped the Golden Bears to a 2-1 victory at Barron. The Superior High School girls are now 8-4-1 in the Middle Border Conference and 8-8-1 overall.

The Spartan girls soccer team outshot Barron 15-5 Tuesday evening, but strong play in goal helped the Golden Bears to a 2-1 victory at Barron. The Superior High School girls are now 8-4-1 in the Middle Border Conference and 8-8-1 overall.

Barron struck quickly in Tuesday's game, scoring on a shot by Olivia Stephens just 1:30 into play.

The Golden Bears maintained a 1-0 lead until Superior tied the game at 1-1 less than three minutes into the second half when Allison Gotelaere scored, assisted by Amber Holt. Josie Borgen then scored the winning goal for Barron at 54:58.

Dana Ekenstedt finished with 14 saves to give Barron the win. Sara Balcer had three saves for Superior.

The SHS junior varsity team defeated Barron 1-0 Tuesday evening to improve to 9-2-1 this season.
