After losing game one, the Superior High School volleyball team rallied to defeat Duluth Marshall 3-1 (23-25, 25-19, 25-19, 25-13) Tuesday night in the SHS gym.
The Spartans got 22 set assists from Nicole Sorensen; 20 set assists from Olivia Plunkett; 20 kills from Lily Kline; eight kills from Amber Welsh; and 13 digs from Hannah Berg.
For Marshall, Hannah Matthews had five set assists, Kate Kleinschmidt had seven kills; Meghan Matthews added five kills; and Ashlyn Cummins came up with seven digs.

The Spartans host Duluth Denfeld at 7 p.m. Thursday and will play in the Hudson Invitational at 10 a.m. Saturday.
Girls golf
The SHS girls golf team split two Heart O’ North Conference matches Monday at Barron.
The Spartans carded a team score of 210 while Barron finished at 331 and Spooner came in at 181.
Amanda Hinaus picked up five conference points with a team-low score of 51. The rest of the SHS scores were close with Kayla Raboin was a stroke back at 52, Hailey Gronquist, 53; Allie Shober, 54; and Samantha Aune, 55.
Raboin picked up three conference points, Gronquist two and Shober one.
The Spartans will golf in the Northwestern Invitational at 9 a.m. Thursday at Botten’s Green Acres in Lake Nebagamon.

Boys Soccer
The Spartans lost to Ashland 5-2 Tuesday night at the NBC Sports Complex and lost 4-2 at Proctor on Sept. 4.
Against Proctor, Derek Copperud and Caden Tchop scored for Superior and Nick Hasselgrave had 11 saves.

Girls Tennis
The Spartans fell to 3-3 in the Lake Superior Conference with 6-1 loss to Duluth Marshall Tuesday evening in Duluth.
Monica Soland and Hailey Anderson notched Superior’s win, 6-1, 6-1 over Marshall’s Erica Anderson and Alexis Roseth at No. 3 doubles.
Allie Thul came close at No. 2 singles, losing in a tiebreaker to Tiffany Wong (7-6, 4-6, 10-4).
In a LSC match on Sept. 4, Superior lost to Hermantown 7-1.

Hannah Thul won for Superior, defeating Madelyn Miller in the No. 1 singles match.
The Spartans play again at 4:15 p.m. Tuesday at Cloquet.
