The Spartans' Chesie McLaughlin and Elise DeGraef competed in the 2021 Senior All Star Game sponsored by the Wisconsin Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association Tuesday, July 13, at Woodside Sports Complex in Wisconsin Dells.
The games were a series played between six WIAA Division 1 softball teams, with each team playing two games. McLaughlin and DeGraef were members of the D1 Black Team, which was coached by Superior's John Heinen and Mike Sather.
In their first game, the D1 Black Team defeated the D1 Blue Team, 4-0. McLaughlin was 2-3 at the plate, and DeGraef was 1-3 with one RBI.
In the second game, the D1 Black Team defeated the D1 Red Team, 10-5. DeGraef was 2-3 and McLaughlin was 2-3 with one RBI. McLaughlin also pitched two scoreless innings.
In an email, Sather said the game was a great experience for his players, offering them the opportunity to play against their peers from throughout the state.
"The two girls performed super and held more than their own," Sather said. "As a coach, it was heartwarming to watch them play and an honor to be part of this outstanding event."
