Alyssa McWilliams hit a three-run home run and Morgan Parrish earned the pitching win as Webster University eliminated Wisconsin-Superior from NCAA Division III softball regional play with a 9-1 five-inning victory Friday in Waverly, Iowa.
Parrish allowed one run on four hits and had three strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings while McWilliams and Paige Thomas finished with two hits apiece for Webster (21-11).
Tayler Kraemer had two hits to lead the Yellowjackets (22-16).
Maya Patty and Hannah Matthies each had two hits, two runs, two RBIs and a walk to lead top-seeded St. Olaf to an 11-3 victory over sixth-seeded Wisconsin-Superior in their six-inning regional playoff opener.
The game’s first pitch was scheduled for 10 a.m. but was delayed more than three hours due to rain.
Three pitchers combined to hold UWS to five hits but the Yellowjackets tried to make a game of it by scoring three runs in the top of the fifth to cut the deficit to 7-3. The Oles, however, ended the game early with four runs in the bottom of the sixth as the game ended when Patty was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
Katie Weisheit added two hits, a run and two RBIs for St. Olaf (25-6), which, with the victory, is off until Saturday’s second day.
The top of the UWS lineup was once again productive for the Yellowjackets as leadoff hitter Kaela Kraemer had two hits, a run and walk, younger sister Tayler Kraemer had a hit, run and walk and Olivia Bancroft-Hart had a hit, run and RBI.
UWS yielded seven walks and had two errors.
