Brooke Ogren went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs to lead the Northwestern High School softball team past the Cumberland Beavers 7-2 in a WIAA Division 3 playoff game Thursday, May 23, in Brule.

The Tigers also got a solo home run from Kennedy Nelson and an RBI single from Jayda Klobucher as they improved to 19-4 and earned the right to play at Bloomer in the sectional semifinals at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, May 28.

Bloomer advanced with an 8-2 win over Spooner.

Allison Luoma was the complete-game winner for the Tigers, allowing three hits with 15 strikeouts and one walk.

One of the hits for the Beavers was Lauren Green's two-run homer in the top of the first inning.

The Tigers answered with three runs in the bottom of the first as Nelson and Tory Anderson walked and scored on Ogren's double. Ogren later stole home for the third run.

Klobucher's RBI single came in the third inning; an error and stolen base led to two runs in the fifth; Nelson homered in the sixth.

Green took the  loss for Cumberland, allowing five earned runs on seven hits and five walks while striking out eight.
