The Solon Springs High School softball team opened the WIAA Division 5 playoffs with an 11-0, five-inning win over Birchwood Monday, May 20, in Solon Springs.

The Eagles (16-1) will now host the Northwood Evergreens (12-4) at 5 p.m. Thursday, May 23. The Evergreens advanced with a 15-0, four-inning win over Mellen.

"Overall, we played a solid game," SSHS coach Dale Rajala said. "We took advantage of our opportunities on offense and made the necessary plays on defense to limit their opportunities to score."

Kylli Rajala tossed a one-hitter with seven strikeouts for the Eagles. She also had three of her team's nine hits.

Allison Androsky was also 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs; Taylor Routley hit a two-run double; Maddelyn Swanson and Lily Nordskog both had a hit and RBI; and Jetta Swanson knocked in a run.

Abby Greison had Birchwood's only hit and suffered loss on the mound, finishing with two strikeouts and nine walks.

Northwood is 12-4 overall and finished first in the East Lakeland Conference at 6-1.

EAGLE EXTRAS: Northwood also finished first in the East Lakeland Conference at 6-1. … Solon Springs and Northwood did not play during the regular season.
