The Northwestern High School softball team wrapped up its regular season with a 12-6 non-conference loss at Amery on Thursday, May 16.

The Tigers, 17-4 overall, also finished tied for first place in the Heart O' North Conference with Bloomer with records of 13-1. The teams split during the season with the Blackhawks winning 4-3 and the Tigers winning 6-5.

After Amery took a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, the Tigers scored all six of their runs in the third.

After that it was all Warriors as they scored eight runs over the final three innings.

The Tigers’ third inning included Tory Anderson's two-run homer; Tavya Plasch's RBI single; Alyssa Little's two-run double; and Kennedy Nelson’s RBI double.

Northwestern’s 10 hits also included Brooke Ogren going 3-for-4; doubles, singles and two RBIs apiece from Little and Anderson; and Mac Correll’s double.

Madelyn Granica was the complete-game winner for Amery, finishing with six strikeouts and four walks.

Allison Luoma, Little and Nelson pitched for the Tigers, finishing with three strikeouts and one walk.

The Warriors' 17 hits included home runs from Abby Schmidt and A. Dahlberg; two doubles, a single and three RBIs from R. Rivard; and a double and single from Granica.

Northwestern is the No. 2 seed for the WIAA Division 3 playoffs and will host No. 7 Ladysmith Tuesday, May 21, in Brule. The winner will play either No. 3 Cumberland or No. 6 St.Croix Falls on Thursday, May 23.
