Tigers steal one from Blackhawks

The Northwestern High School softball team literally stole one from the Bloomer Blackhawks with a 6-5 eight-inning victory Tuesday, May 14, at the Brule softball fields.

Shantelle Ruf’s second home run of the game tied the game at 5-5 in the top of the sixth inning.

After a scoreless seventh inning, Northwestern’s Alyssa Little reached on an error with one out in the bottom of the eighth inning when her infield pop up was misplayed. Little then stole second and moved to third on a passed ball. On another passed ball, Bloomer's catcher retrieved the ball and attempted to get Little going back to third base, but the ball sailed into left field allowing the winning run to score.

Allison Luoma was the complete-game winning pitcher, allowing three earned runs on nine hits while striking out nine and walking five.

Emily Kuchl took the loss, allowing five earned runs on 13 hits with five strikeouts and three walks.

Tory Anderson had a big game on offense for the Tigers with a home run, double, single and two RBIs. Anderson doubled in the first inning, hit a two-run homer in the third, and singled and scored on Jayda Klobucher's home run in the fifth.

Klobucher also singled; while Brecken Oswskey had two hits, Kennedy Nelson and Brooke Ogren doubled; and Mac Correll hit an RBI single.

Ruf also hit a home run in the fourth inning, Kuchl doubled and singled; and Sammy Bucholtz singled twice.

The Tigers area at Amery at 5 p.m. Thursday, May 16.
