The University of Wisconsin-Superior improved to 10-0 in the UMAC wins of 10-2 and 12-1 over Northland College Tuesday at the NBC Spartan Sports Complex. Both games lasted just five innings.

Damara Theis and Amanda Kishish picked up the wins for UWS. Theise allowed one earned run on five hits with two walks in the opener, while Kishish tossed a three-hitter with six strikeouts in game two.

Bailey Armstrong homered for UWS in the opener. Amelia Leger had a double and two RBIs; and Amber Yoch and two RBi singles.

The second game was decided early as UWS scored 10 times in the first inning.

Ashley Taipale led the way with a three-run homer; Hayley Lathrop had an RBI double; and Carpenter and Tulip hit two-run singles.

Trailing 1-0 in the opener, UWS scored three times with two outs in the fourth inning on Armstrong’s home run, Yoch’s RBI single and Leger’s RBI double.

After Northland College scored a run in the top of the fifth, the Yellowjackets ended the game via the 8-run rule with seven runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Yoch, Emily Carpenter and Tiffany Kirk had RBI singles; Leger, Tiffany Kirk and Taipale walked with the bases loaded; and the game ended when two runs scored on Gabby Gidley’s fielder’s choice.

In Superior’s 10-run first inning in game two, Taipale had an RBI groundout; Armstrong a sac fly; Davriana Horvath scored on an error; Carpenter and Tulip hit two-run singles; and Taipale belted a three-run home run.

Alivia Heller homered for Northland in the third inning.

UWS scored its final two runs in the third inning on Lathrop’s RBI double and Horvath’s RBI single.

UWS (13-15) hosts North Central in a doubleheader at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 20.

UWS sweeps ML

The Yellowjackets (11-15 overall, 8-0 UMAC) defeated the Martin Luther Knights by scores 10-0 in five innings and 12-1.

Kirk was 4-for-4, including a three-run homer, in the opener to support Taipale's five-inning two-hitter.

Also for the Yellowjackets, Yoch was also 2-for-3 with two RBIs; Carpenter hit a two-run double; Taipale doubled and singled; and Armstrong had a hit and RBI.

UWS scored six runs in the seventh to pull away from Martin Luther in game two.

Taipale and Kirk each homered, with Taipale driving in three runs. Also for the Yellowjackets, Armstrong was 3-for-4 with three RBIs; Carpenter had two hits and three RBIs; Gidley tripled and singled twice; and Yoch and Kishish had two hits each.
