Sting win Arrowhead League softball title
The Superior Sting 12U softball team capped off a successful season by winning the Arrowhead League’s Silver Division championship with an 11-5 win over Cromwell-Wright.
Eva Peterson pitched a complete game for the Sting, allowing only three hits while walking six and striking out seven.
The Sting had hits from Jaclyn Samarziya, MacKenzie Peterson and Ryah Samarzia.
The Sting advanced to the finals with wins over Hermantown Blue and Hermantown Grey.
In the Sting’s 7-5 win over Hermantown Blue, Eva Peterson tossed a one-hitter with three strikeouts and eight walks.
The Sting were led at the plate by M. Peterson, who had two hits, and Eva Peterson, Savanna Hering, Olivia Lundgren and Kirsten Kantarik, with a hit apiece.
The Sting defeated Hermantown Grey 8-6 in the semifinal.
Hering pitched a complete game allowing seven hits with one strikeout and no walks.
The Sting benefited from several stellar defensive plays, including center fielder Lundgren throwing out two runners at the plate.
The Sting had 10 hits, including two apiece by Samarziya, MacKenzie Peterson, Lily Martinez and Lundgren and one each by Eva Peterson, Kantarik and Aubrey Guttormson.
Rokkyn Kavajecz and Emily Reno round out the roster for the Sting, who finish with a record of 12-5.
The Sting are coached by Jesse Samarziya and Tony Peterson and managed by Jaime Samarziya.
