The University of Wisconsin-Superior soccer teams swept a UMAC doubleheader from Bethany Lutheran College on Saturday, Oct. 12, in Mankato, Minn.
Senior Eric Watson scored two first-half goals to become the Yellowjackets’ all-time career goal-scoring leader in the men’s 6-0 win. Emma Street then knocked in a rebound in the 67th minute to lift the UWS women to a 2-1 win in the nightcap.
Watson needed two goals for the record, which was owned by 2018 graduate and current assistant coach Jon Bucklew, who scored 37 goals from 2014-17.
Felix Blick opened the scoring for the UWS men in the 17th minute before Watson struck twice in an 11-minute span. His record-breaking goal came on a penalty kick.
Abel Vaudo added a goal less than three minutes later and first-place UWS (9-3-2 overall, 5-0 UMAC) tacked on two more goals in the second half.
UWS goalkeepers Payton Anderson and Jacob Riggs made one save apiece against the Vikings (9-4, 2-2).
The Yellowjacket women (4-7-2, 3-0) took a 1-0 lead on a seventh-minute own goal.
Bethany Lutheran (6-7, 2-2) equalized on Maddie Perry's 40-minute goal before Street scored the game-winner.
The UWS men and women play at Crown on Tuesday, Oct. 15.
UWS went 2-2 in the UW-Oshkosh tournament over the weekend.
On Saturday, Oct. 12, UWS edged Luther College 3-2 after falling 3-1 to the host Titans.
Cami Sletta had a team-high 15 kills in the Yellowjackets' 23-25, 25-15, 22-25, 25-17, 15-13 win over Luther. Yana Carrera kept a lot of points alive with 27 digs.
Sletta's 11 kills led UWS (11-14) in the 25-19, 25-27, 25-19, 25-21 loss to Oshkosh.
On Friday, Oct. 11, St. Norbert College swept UWS 25-23, 25-17, 25-15.
Grace Baumann had 14 kills to pace the Green Knights (16-6), while Brylee Colligan led the Yellowjackets with 10 kills.
UWS rebounded to defeat Finlandia University 3-0.
