The Colorado Avalanche announced Friday that they signed Superior’s Mike Sislo to a one-year, two-way contract.
Sislo, 28, had played his entire pro career in the New Jersey Devils and split the 2015-16 campaign between New Jersey and its AHL affiliate in Albany, N.Y. He became a free agent on July 1.
“I’m excited,” Sislo said. “Obviously it was a big decision to make, but I felt in the conversations with them and my agent this was my best fit.
“We’ve talked to a few other teams, but Colorado definitely stood out.”
Sislo, who signed with New Jersey on April 6, 2011, dressed in 18 games for New Jersey last season, tallying four points (3 goals, 1 assist). His first two NHL goals came against the Minnesota Wild on March 17 at the Prudential Center.

Sislo also led the Albany Devils in goals (27) and finished second in points (53) while appearing in 57 games. He scored 14 goals on the power play, tops among all AHL players. The 5-foot-11, 195-pound right wing added seven points (2 goals, 5 assists) in nine playoff contests.
Sislo, who represented Albany at the 2016 AHL All-Star Classic, played 304 career AHL games, all with Albany, and has amassed 92 goals and 95 assists for 187 points.
An alumnus of the University of New Hampshire, Sislo has three goals and five points in 41 total NHL games for New Jersey in the last few years.
The Avalanche also announced they signed defenseman Fedor Tyutin to a one-year contract for the 2016-17 season.
In addition, the Avalanche announced the signings of forwards Reid Petryk and Trent Vogelhuber to two-year contracts, and defenseman Ryan Stanton, goaltender Jeremy Smith and forwards Turner Elson, Jim O’Brien and Joe Whitney to one-year deals.
