In its first action of the spring, the Superior High School boys golf team finished seventh at the Chippewa Falls Invitational Friday at Lake Wissota Golf Course.
Eau Claire North won the team title with a score of 309. Eau Claire Memorial was two strokes back in second place. Superior carded a 360.
“Even though our scores are higher than I’d like to see, it sure was nice to see our athletes have the opportunity to finally get on a golf course and compete,” SHS coach Dan Schultz said. “We haven’t had an opportunity to play a practice round of any sort so far this spring, so the elevated scores are somewhat to be expected.”

Thomas Longbella of ECM was the meet medalist with a 70. Former Superiorite Tyler Bee (ECN) was second with a 73.
Daniel Berger led Superior with an 82.
“Daniel really struck the ball well, he was routinely hitting 300 yards drives and for the most part he kept the ball in the fairway,” Schultz said. “But he lost some strokes with his wedges which is uncharacteristic for him, twice airmailing his ball over the green into a hazard from inside 100 yards. These are things that Danny will clean up once we have an opportunity to practice outdoors.”
Other Spartan scores were Paxton Paine, 89; Matt Hinaus, 93; Mitch Anderson, 96; and Jeb Kimmes, 106.
“Paxton struggled early on but rallied to play his final 10 holes at 3-over-par,” Schultz said. “Matt had back-to-back birdies on his card. He hit a terrific 8 iron approach shot from 175 yards away on the 16th hole and then poured in a 10-footer for birdie. He followed that up by hitting his tee shot on the difficult par 3, 17th hole to inside a foot.”
The Spartans were scheduled to host their own tournament Wednesday, but will now play in the Barron Invitational.
SPARTAN SPIN: The SHS JV also competed at Hayward on Friday. SHS 1 finished in 11th place with a score of 404 and SHS 2 came in 16th place at 443. New Richmond finished first at 342. Spartan scores were: Kyler Krob, 94; Scott Archambeau, 97; Braden LaPorte, 98; Sam Kline, 105; Chase Elder, 106; Grant Anderson, 115; Kiefer Eales, 116; Matt Gramstrup, 116; Jack Radtke, 137; Nick O’Neill, 142.
