The Superior Reds American Legion baseball team improved to 15-9 on the season with wins this week over Hibbing and Virginia.

The Reds defeated Virginia 8-6 Tuesday and then Hibbing 4-0 Thursday. Both games were played at Morrie Arnovich Field.

The Reds will host a wood bat tournament this weekend. Superior plays Moose Lake at 4:30 p.m. and Ashland at 7 p.m. today at the NBC Spartan Sports Complex. The Reds also play West Duluth at 3 p.m. Saturday and Prior Lake at 4 p.m. Sunday.

Reds 4, Hibbing 0

Hunter Hockenbrock tossed a two-hit shutout with two strikeouts and three walks in the win over Hibbing.

Travis Carruth took the loss for Hibbing, allowing nine hits with four strikeouts and two walks.

For the Reds, Caden Tchop doubled and singled; Gunner Johnson and Austin Sears both had two hits and an RBI; Dominic D’Auria doubled and had an RBI; Justin Reinkall had a hit and RBI; and Bryce Connolly chipped in with a hit.

Reds 14, Virginia 9

Reinkall, Keith Montgomery and Matt Strum pitched for the Reds, allowing five hits with seven strikeouts and eight walks.

Reinkall allowed two runs (one earned) and two hits in the first five innings, while striking out five and walking four.

Montgomery picked up the win, despite allowing three runs and two hits in one inning. Strum picked up the save, allowing one hit with one strikeout and one walk in the seventh inning.

Devin Mayry took the loss for Virginia, allowing eight hits with seven strikeouts and five walks.

For the Reds, Reinkall doubled twice; Sears had two hits and an RBI; Sean O’Neill had a hit and two RBIs; Connolly had an RBI single; Johnson doubled; and Strum singled.
