Superior's Krueger, Northwestern's Smith win wrestling sectional titles

Superior's Connor Krueger and Northwestern's Ian Smith won WIAA sectional championships on Saturday and with it berths to the state tournament.

In Division 1 at Eau Claire North, Krueger, a junior wrestling at 126 pounds, defeated David Hughes of Chippewa Falls with a pin at the 2:29 mark to complete his qualification for the state meet beginning Thursday at the Kohl Center in Madison.

Smith, wrestling in Division 2 at Amery, won a 7-2 decision in the 182-pound final over Caden Weber of Regis/Altoona.

Northwestern's Tommy Brown took fourth at 113, one place out of qualification.
