Prep report: Superior wrestlers tripped in triangular

Northwestern boys basketball maintained its unbeaten record in Heart O' North Conference play.

Superior dropped a pair of high school wrestling matches Thursday, Jan. 13, in Superior, falling 57-21 to Hayward/Northwood and 59-24 to Hibbing.

Hayward/Northwood earned seven wins by pin: Kade Carlson (126 pounds), Noah Christianson (132), Drake Marks (138), Brody Roach (160), Bradey Gottwald (195), Deangelo Sardina (220) and Micah Butler (285).

Gage Rusk (113 pounds), Eric Winterscheidt (145), Jason Thomas (152) and Deshawn Hill (182) earned victories for the Spartans.

Hibbing earned six victories by pin: Kaden Sweeney (113 pounds), Ethan Roy (132), Cooper Hendrickson (170), Drew Shay (195), Ian Larrabee (220) and Alex Henderson (285).

The Spartans got victories from Fjeordi Johnson (126), Aiden Rusk (138), Eric Winterscheidt (145) and Jason Thomas (152).

Junior Cole Lahti hit five 3-pointers and scored 28 points as the Tigers stayed unbeaten in Heart O’ North Conference play with the road win.

Senior Monte Mayberry connected on three shots behind the arc and added 24 points for Northwestern (7-3 overall, 6-0 HON) while Zory Parker and Tyson Lucas scored 17 points apiece to lead Cameron (6-4, 5-3).
