Prep report: Spuds fry Grand Rapids in overtime

Duluth Denfeld had a rough trip at Warroad in a matchup of top-five Class A boys teams.

GRAND RAPIDS — Moorhead's Gavin Lindberg completed a hat trick with an overtime winner as the Spuds got out of the IRA Civic Center with a 5-4 victory in a matchup of two top-10 ranked Class AA boys hockey teams.

No. 9 Grand Rapids led No. 8 Moorhead 3-1 after a period, but Lindberg tied the game with his first and second goals and Harper Bentz put the visitors ahead before Garrett Drotts equalized for the Thunderhawks on the power play with 3:01 to play.

Lindberg has scored 10 of his 14 goals this season in the last five games.

Myles Gunderson made 32 saves for Grand Rapids (13-4-0).

Warroad 9, Duluth Denfeld 1

Matt Hard scored four times as the Warriors dominated this matchup of the No. 2 and No. 4 teams in Class A at the Warroad Gardens Arena.

GIRLS HOCKEY

North Shore 4, Princeton 3 (OT)

Livia Hoff bagged the overtime winner for the Storm 5:38 into the extra session after Brooke Velcheff equalized with 1:01 to play.

Eden Prairie 2, Proctor/Hermantown 1

The host Eagles made a second-period go-ahead goal from Dani Benson hold up through a scoreless third frame.

Nya Sieger had the lone goal for the Mirage (13-6-1), who got 24 saves from Abby Pajari but were held to 11 shots on goal.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Northwestern 90, Cumberland 78

Monte Mayberry scored 35 points and made five 3-pointers as the Tigers reached 9-0 in the Heart O'North Conference. Three other Northwestern players scored in double figures.
