SOLON SPRINGS — Solon Springs Isaiah Kastern was dominant inside offensively, scoring 21 points and leading his team to a 49-37 home win over Drummond Monday, Jan. 10.
The Lumberjacks came into the game looking to limit Kastern, but the strategy opened up opportunities for other players.
“The Eagles showed good patience offensively as Drummond was doing everything they could to keep Kastern from getting position and the ball,” Solon Springs coach Marcus Besonen said in an email. “Running the offense through Isaiah allowed others to get easy baskets as well as keep Drummond off balance enough to allow seven other players to score tonight.”
In addition to Kastern, Colby Latvala scored 11 for Solon Springs.
Drummond is typically a strong offensive rebounding team, but the Eagle defense was able to keep them off the glass and prevent second-chance points.

In addition, the Solon Springs pressure kept the Lumberjacks off balance throughout the first half, when they scored just 13 points.
“We also got them a little bit out of sorts with our pressure in the first half, getting them to commit some turnovers that allowed us to build our lead,” Besonen said. “In the second half they handled it better but the damage was already done. I’m very proud of our boys’ effort and execution tonight”
Solon Springs (8-2, 6-1) will next play at Hurley at 7:15 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 13.
