Prep report: Lumberjacks outlast Rebels on softball diamond

Cloquet and Moose Lake/Willow River went the distance and then some on the softball diamond, with the Lumberjacks getting the go-ahead run in the top of the 10th inning for a 5-4 victory.

Sophie Diver had two hits and drove in two runs, including the eventual game-winner. Roena Diver also went 2-for-5, with a triple and an RBI. Carly Johnson was 2-for-5 with a double and scored twice.

Allie Jones pitched all 10 innings for Cloquet, allowing two earned runs on nine hits. She struck out nine and walked three.

For the Rebels, Sarah Christy, Sandra Ribich and Maci Kukuk had two hits apiece.

Superior 13, Wausau West 1

New Richmond 5, Superior 4

Ari Robillard went 4-for-4 with two RBIs and held West to one run on two hits in a big win at New Richmond. The Spartans then came one run short of rallying from 5-1 down after three innings to lose to the hosts.

Melania Luostari was 3-for-4 in the New Richmond game, while Indigo Fish was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

BASEBALL

North Branch 8, Cloquet 5

Alec Turnbull went 3-for-3 but the Lumberjacks were only able to make it halfway back from 8-2 down going into their last at-bat.

Kollin Bonneville had a pair of hits, a pair of RBIs and a stolen base for Cloquet. Kade Kolodge took the loss, allowing seven runs (five earned) and 10 hits in 4 1/3 innings.

North Branch 9, Duluth Denfeld 3

C.J. Christensen, Dane Dzuck and Gavin Bulthuis had two hits apiece for the Hunters.

Proctor 11, International Falls 0

Tanner Olson went 2-for-3 with a double and became the 20th player in Proctor history to accumulate 50 career hits as the Rails rolled on the road.

Ethan Carter was 3-for-3 with a double and two stolen bases in the win, while AJ Reyelts also had a pair of hits.

Nick Terhaar and Carson Pavlowich combined on a two-hit shutout and struck out 10 over five innings.
