The Superior Spartans girls soccer team held the line for a half, but the visiting Eau Claire North Huskies pulled away with three second-half goals for a 3-0 Big Rivers Conference victory on Thursday, May 19, at NBC Spartan Sports Complex.

The teams were deadlocked at the intermission, but Abbey Liddell, Sydni Schindler and Halle Steinmetz put the Huskies on top.

Superior recognized eight seniors on the occasion of their last home game. The Spartans are scheduled to conclude their regular season on Tuesday at Menominee.

BOYS GOLF

Tigers claim HON title

Senior Trent Mayer shot a 4-over 75 to lead Northwestern to the Heart O'North Conference championship on a wet day at Turtleback Golf Course in Rice Lake.

Mayer was the medalist by four shots over teammate Bryce Priem and Keegan Steckel of Ladysmith, who both shot 79.

Northwestern compiled a team score of 322, 18 shots better than runners-up Hayward.

This is Northwestern's fifth consecutive conference league and tournament title.

SOFTBALL

Hayward 4, Northwood/Solon Springs 2

The Hurricanes held N/SS to two hits, both by Bailey Monson in a game that was called due to lightning in the fifth inning.

BASEBALL

Northwestern 9, Spooner 2

Luke Sedin allowed two runs on five hits in six innings and struck out seven, and drove in two runs for his own cause.

Jace Nelson and Kole Paulsen also had two-hit games.

Northwood/Solon Springs 14, Birchwood/Winter 8

N/SS scored 10 of its runs in the last two innings to pull out the victory. Abe Ahlberg and Kaden Corlett had three hits apiece for N/SS.

Dylan Taggart pitched three innings of hitless relief for the pitching victory.
