Prep report: Ahlberg’s bomb lifts Northwood/Solon Springs past Chequamegon

Northwood/Solon Springs’ sophomore Abe Ahlberg hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the second to lift his team to a 6-3 win over Chequamegon Monday in Solon Springs.

Tanner Carlson allowed two hits over five innings and struck out 12 in the win.

Ahlberg finished the game 2-for-3 with two RBIs and three runs scored. Carlson and Syver Gulbrandson each had a pair of hits and an RBI for NSS.

Barnum 8, Moose Lake/Willow River 4

Caleb Hautajarvi stuck out 10 batters and allowed two hits over 6 ⅔ innings in an 8-4 home win over Moose Lake/Willow River.

The Bombers scored two runs in three of the first four innings and were only held without a run in the fifth inning.

Owen Rosenau had a pair of hits and an RBI for Barnum.

Richie Balut and Joey Steen each had an RBI for MLWR.

Silver Bay 10, Carlton 0

Silver Bay’s Jake Stadler allowed four hits and struck out 14 batters in the Mariners’ six-inning, 10-0 home win over Carlton.

Tucker Cook went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Cash Williams hit a home run for Silver Bay.

Stadler and Andrew Wehrman were also 2-for-3 for the Mariners.

Softball

Silver Bay 6, Carlton/Wrenshall 5

An RBI single by Silver Bay’s Cassidy Sullivan in the bottom of the eighth inning lifted the Mariners to a 6-5 home win over Carlton/Wrenshall on Monday.

Carlton/Wrenshall tied the game in the top of the seventh and MaeLyn Pokornowski’s solo home run gave the Raptors a lead in the top of the eighth.

Silver Bay’s Hannah Thums hit an RBI double to tie the game in the bottom of the eighth to set up Sullivan’s game-winner.

Hope Ernest allowed eight hits and struck out six in the win for Silver Bay. Ernest was also 2-for-3 with a double and a stolen base and Thums finished with two RBIs.

The Raptors’ Abby Mitchell allowed five hits and struck out 12 in the loss. Mitchell also had a pair of hits and two RBIs.

Duluth Marshall 6, Mora 5

Duluth Marshall’s Avery Beranek allowed three runs and six hits while striking out 13 in the Hilltoppers first win of the season — a 6-5 victory over Mora.

Marshall’s Anna Hron was 2-for-2 with a triple and three RBIs, with Grace Strandberg and Morgan Lucero each going 1-for-2.

Mora’s Lauren Kohlgraf allpwed nine hits and six runs in the loss.
