Prep report: Spartans second at Superior Invitational

Hayward won the event with Hurricane golfers taking the top two spots and four of the top 10.

SUPERIOR — Superior’s Autumn Cooper shot a 92 and led the Spartans to a second-place finish at the Superior Invitational Monday at Nemadji Golf Course.

Cooper finished fourth overall, six strokes back of Hayward’s Macey Reier and Tara Eckes. Reier won the match after a playoff with Eckes after the pair finished with matching scores of 86.

As a team, Hayward placed four golfers in the top 10 and won the event with a combined score of 369, 25 strokes ahead of Superior. The Hurricanes’ Ally Reier shot a 94 to finish fifth overall and Ellie Titus was ninth with a score of 103.

Ladysmith’s Michelle Wallin was the only other golfer ahead of Cooper in the standings, finishing fourth with a score of 90.

Superior’s Samantha Mosack and Brynn Johnson finished eighth and ninth, respectively, with Mosack shooting 97 and Johnson finishing one stroke back.

Katie Kyle was the top finisher for Northwestern in eighth place with a score of 99. The Tigers finished fourth overall with a combined score of 470.
