Prep report: Taggert, Solon Springs/Northwood boys capture Copperud Open cross country meet

SSN sophomore leads the way at second Indianhead Conference meet of the season.

Sophomore Dylan Taggart finished second individually as Solon Springs/Northwood breezed to the boys team title at the Copperud Open cross country meet Thursday, Sept. 30, 2021, at Northern Pines Golf Course in Iron River.

Butternut senior Mike Brown was the top boys individual in the second Indianhead Conference meet of the season, completing the course in 17 minutes, 41 seconds; with Taggart 22 seconds behind in 18:03. Freshman Isaac Dickenson (fourth, 18:49), sophomore Tarver Sellwood (sixth, 18:59) and senior Ben Dickenson (eighth, 19:46) all finished in the top 10 as all seven Solon Springs/Northwood runners placed in the top 20.

Washburn junior Sofia Borchers won the girls individual race in 22:32.8. Junior Lily Truchon was second in 23:04.6 in leading South Shore to the girls team title.

Washburn was second and Solon Springs/Northwood third as senior Nona Thompson (fourth, 23:26.4) and junior Zoe Smith (10th, 24:52.2) finished in the top 10.

Hawks edge Spartans

Sydney Friedrich earned a victory over Haily Landrigan in No. 1 singles but it wasn’t enough as host Hermantown edged Superior Thursday in high school girls tennis.


The Spartans’ doubles teams of Mollie Rossing and Tatum William and Sarah Benson and Ruby Farnham also earned victories.
