Northwood/Solon Springs 3, Bruce 0

Freshman Abe Ahlberg went 5 2/3 strong innings to lead Northwood/Solon Springs to the Lakeland-East win at Bruce.

Ahlberg allowed just three hits, with eight strikeouts and four walks.

“We played a much better game than we did last night, even though the scoreboard might show otherwise,” coach Nate Ahlberg said. “We played with much more energy and focus, which was needed as Bruce was much improved since we faced them three weeks ago.”

Senior Ben Monson went 2-for-4 with a 2B and RBI, junior Gage Blaylock was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs and junior Colby Latvala added a hit while earning his second save of the season, with two strikeouts, one walk and no hits allowed in 1 1/3 innings.

“Both our pitchers threw well tonight,” Nate Ahlberg added. “Abe gave up a leadoff double and then walked the next batter, but a groundout and two strikeouts ended the first. He also worked around two errors and a double in the fifth by striking out two and picking a runner off third.”
