Prep report: Spartans wrestlers edge Oredockers

Superior opened its 2021-22 wrestling home schedule with a victory over Ashland on Thursday, Dec. 9.

The 39-24 decision in favor of the Spartans was extra close. Both teams recorded four falls apiece, while Superior collected 12 points from forfeits. The one match to go to points was at 138, where Jonah Peterson of Superior topped Connor Kaseno 7-4.

Spartans to record pins included Connor Kreuger (126), Jason Thomas (144), Joshua Johnson (152) and Will Lampton (195).

Girls basketball: Northwestern 57, Hayward 43

Tieryn Plasch scored 26 points to lead Northwestern to victory at Hayward.

The Tigers led 29-24 at halftime and the defense allowed just 19 points in the second half to secure the win.

Gabby Risley score 11 points in the effort for Northwestern and Ana Johnson scored 15 to lead Hayward.
