Lucas Williams' goal 12 minutes into the first period held up as a game-winner for Superior in a 1-0 decision over Hayward on Tuesday, Jan. 4, at the Superior Ice Arena.
Trevor Durfee and George Hansen assisted on the tally, at 12:05 of the frame.
Goaltender Trevor Soderlund covered things the rest of the way, making 19 saves for his first shutout since the season opener at Menomonie.
Superior (4-5-1) faces Duluth Denfeld in the second of its three games this week, on Thursday at Wessman Arena.
The scheduled Spartans girls game vs. North Shore was called off due to incoming weather.

Three players in double figures helped the Spartans (11-1) easily see off Denfeld at home.
Savannah Leopold had a game-high 20 points for Superior; Emma Raye added 17 and both players had two 3-pointers apiece.

Tieryn Plasch scored 28 of her 30 points in the first half as Northwestern ran its record to 7-2 against the winless Rails at Spooner. The junior made five triples for the Tigers.
Abby Wennersten added 12 points for Northwestern.
